Adult Bibs

A few years ago, I had a few requests across several shows to make bibs for adults or special needs teens. At the time, I was up to my elbows in craft fair and custom t-shirt quilt orders, so I let the suggestion fall out of focus. It wasn’t until I visited my grandmother and saw how much she liked hers that I really began to focus on them. I took hers and traced it to make a quick template. But I knew that simply having a couple of cotton layers wasn’t really enough to protect clothes against spills, especially liquids. At Michaels, I found this light polyester blend that wasn’t too stiff but would still be somewhat resistant to liquid spills, and I figured it would do that trick.

After making six of them, I washed one and was very happy with how it came out. Then, I gave it to a friend to test with her special needs sister and give feedback. She liked it!

I had some personal issues with the neckline and ended up widening it once I began working on the second batch. I also went back to my favored snaps to close it instead of Velcro. Moving forward, I’ll try to mix in a little of both to cater to different preferences. It was also an opportunity to use some of the more fun fabric that’s been needing a project. Once I restock on the lining fabric, I have several more designs in mind.

Overall, I’m very happy with how these turned out and will put the second batch in my booth at Olive Branch Antiques and Home Decor in Monroe, GA. It’s a cute store, and if you’re in the area you should definitely stop by there and the Scoops Ice Cream parlor across the street!
